(Policy Address 2025) Hong Kong mulls more private homes in Au Tau

The government will mull allowing more private homes in Au Tau to attract market participation in the urgent task of developing the Northern Metropolis.

Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said the administration will consider “a larger proportion of private housing” in the area around Sha Po at Au Tau Station for development into a new development area in the northern part of the city. 

Au Tau MTR Station is a part of the Northern Link between Kwu Tung and Kam Sheung Road, which is about 10.7 kilometers long.

The city’s railway operator MTR Corporation (0066) will conduct the review, announcing its results next year.

If appropriate, the government may also apply the measure and others to areas outside the Northern Metropolis, Lee said.
