Hong Kong shares rise at open, Tencent up 3pc

Hong Kong stocks rose at the open on Tuesday ahead of a meeting between presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, led by gains in tech stocks.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index advanced 128 points, or 0.51 percent, to 25,170.

The tech gauge jumped 1.01 percent to 4,467.

Tech heavyweight Tencent (0700) climbed 3 percent, marking the best performer among blue chips, while Alibaba (9988) went up 2 percent.

Xiaomi (1810) and JD.com (9618) both rose 1.5 percent, and Baidu (9888) gained 1.9 percent.

Chipmakers also rallied, with Hua Hong Grace Semiconductor (1347) and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Cooperation (0981) growing by 2.7 percent and 2.1 percent, respectively.
