Competition law amendment to tackle digital platform pricing

The second draft amendment to the Anti-Unfair Competition Law will include provisions on the fair competition review system, says Huang Haihua, spokesperson for the Legislative Affairs Commission of the National People's Congress Standing Committee.

The draft amendment addresses emerging competition issues in the digital economy, Huang said, adding that it prohibits platform operators from forcing or indirectly compelling businesses within their platforms to follow pricing rules that require them to sell goods below cost, a practice that disrupts market order.

The amendment is set to be reviewed at the 16th session of the Standing Committee of the 14th NPC that kicks off tomorrow, mainland media reported, quoting Huang.
