Low-income households skip medical help, survey says

Most low-income households lack the motivation to seek medical treatment and physical examinations, an insurer's survey showed.

It found that 42 percent would not consult doctors when having early signs of illness.

Manulife Hong Kong, said about 79 percent would rely on over-the-counter medicines, instead.

Nearly 90 percent did not have a regular medical check-up as 71 percent of them found it costly, while 37 percent believed that there were no pressing health issues.

Meanwhile, Manulife Hong Kong launched a voucher charity program in partnership with Christian Family Service Centre.

It provides up to 2,000 beneficiaries with free healthcare services.
