China reports 79,000 new Covid cases in June, 130 severe, one death

China recorded 79,000 new confirmed Covid-19 cases in June, with 130 severe cases and one death linked to the virus, according to data released by the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.

The national total showed an upward trend, the CDC said. All sequenced cases were identified as the Omicron variant.

Among respiratory pathogens detected at sentinel hospitals, the novel coronavirus ranked second at 9.6 percent, behind influenza at 11.6 percent, during the 27th week of 2026.
