A Tesla accident in a Chinese parking garage went viral after CCTV footage showed the electric car suddenly losing control on a ramp, swerving at a sharp angle, and smashing through a concrete wall.
The black Tesla sedan appeared to accelerate while turning, before bursting through the barrier and landing partly in an adjacent area. The crash scattered chunks of concrete and dust across the parking structure, but no casualties were immediately reported.
The video sparked heated discussion on Chinese social media platforms. Many netizens criticized the parking facility’s poor construction quality, calling it a textbook case of “tofu‑dreg construction” – a phrase used in mainland China to describe shoddy buildings that collapse under pressure.
Others turned the incident into a debate over Tesla’s quality, joking that the American-made electric car is stronger than Chinese concrete.
As of publication, Tesla China has not commented on the accident. It remains unclear whether the vehicle malfunctioned, whether driver error played a role, or if the car’s onboard systems recorded safety data during the crash.
