A video of a woman ripping up a basketball court in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province has been widely circulated online.
Last Wednesday evening, a woman approached a group of boys playing basketball in a public park, attempting to drive them away because they were disturbing her daughter who was preparing for the university entrance examination.
The boys immediately apologised and promised to leave at sunset, but the mother was not willing to compromise. She called her daughter, and the mother-daughter pair began tearing off the rubber mats on the basketball court.
The boys called the police and left the scene after the pair refused to stop.
The police gave a verbal warning and discussed compensation for the defaced basketball court with community managers, who acknowledged that some residents had indeed complained about the noise.
A video of the incident posted online sparked heated discussion among netizens.
“I can already imagine how the daughter will turn out, being brought up by a mother like that,” a comment read. “The destruction of public property must be severely punished!” said another.
“It’s normal to be dissatisfied with noise pollution, but her way of dealing with it wasn’t intelligent”.
