A girl trapped in a car in Wuxi, Jiangsu province could only be rescued by firefighters after a locksmith unpicked the lock, as the girl's parents refused to break the car windows.
Firefighters received the report and arrived on the scene. But the child's mother refused to let the firefighters break the window and insisted on waiting for the locksmith.
Due to the hot weather, the temperature inside the car was very high, and the child was at risk of heatstroke.
The firefighters had to cover the car with fireproof clothing to block out the sun and used thermal sensors to measure the temperature inside the car. The locksmith eventually arrived and opened the car door to rescue the girl.
The parents drew criticism from netizens. “Is it important for the baby or the car?”
“In the face of life, many things should make way for it,” a comment read.
The Fire Department reminds parents to develop a habit of checking the back seat before exiting the vehicle and locking the door, and not to install tinted windows.
If a child is locked in the car, parents should comfort them, provide instructions on how to free themselves, and ask a professional to break the window.
