Sunny Optical shipments fall

Weaker demand from the smartphone market saw Sunny Optical Technology (2382) last month record a 28 percent drop year on year in the shipment of handset lens sets.

The figure, standing at just over 115 million units, also pointed to a 13.2 percent drop on a monthly basis since some products were shipped in advance in September due to the National Day Holiday, the firm said in a stock exchange filing.

This came as the shipment volume of handset camera modules decreased by 11.3 percent to 50.9 million year-on-year, which was also a result of the weaker demand, the filing added.

And the shipment volume of vehicle lens sets decreased by 22.6 percent to around 5.20 million from 12 months previously, given the shortage of the key components in the auto supply chain and the strong shipment volume performance because of pandemic mitigation in the corresponding period last year.
