The 34-year-old actress took home the award for her performance as Carrie Lau in the drama series The Queen of News 2, defeating strong contenders such as Mimi Kung Che-yan and Joman Chiang Jo-man.
Wong appeared visibly nervous as she accepted the award, her voice trembling as she addressed the audience during the live broadcast. She thanked viewers who voted for her, TVB executives, the production team, director Chung Shu-kai, and her father-in-law, veteran entertainer Eric Tsang Chi-wai, drawing smiles and nods of approval from Eric Tsang in the audience.
“An award is not the ultimate goal for an actor,” Wong said in her speech. “But it can give you the strength to keep going.”
After stepping off the stage, Wong admitted she had been overwhelmed by nerves and joked that she was better suited to acting than live appearances. Asked why she did not mention her husband, director Derek Tsang Kwok-cheung, during her acceptance speech, Wong laughed and said she thanked those she could see at the time. She added that her husband had given her strong support throughout her career.
Derek Tsang later expressed his support on social media, writing: “Congrats my love, you earned this all on your own.”
Wong began her career as a part-time model at the age of 14 and later studied film and drama in New York. She has appeared in a wide range of television and film productions, including Never Dance Alone, Hong Kong Love Stories, Forensic Heroes V and The Queen of News series, gradually earning recognition for her performances.
Married to Derek Tsang since 2019, Wong has previously acknowledged the pressure that came with being known as Eric Tsang’s daughter-in-law, saying she once worried her efforts would be overshadowed by her family ties. She has since said she prefers to let her work speak for itself and hopes audiences will remember her primarily as an actress.
