The Hong Kong Observatory announced that it will upgrade the current Strong Wind Signal No. 3 to the Gale or Storm Signal No. 8 at 10.10pm Saturday night as Typhoon Noul moves closer to the city.
In accordance with standard severe weather protocols, a "Pre-No. 8 Special Announcement" will be issued approximately two hours prior to the warning signal coming into force.
Forecasters project that Typhoon Noul will make landfall tomorrow morning along the coastal corridor between Huizhou and Shanwei, skirting roughly 100 kilometers northeast of Hong Kong.
As the storm's gale-force wind zone approaches, winds across the territory are expected to strengthen significantly late into the evening.
Associated rainbands have already delivered strong winds and precipitation across several districts over recent hours.
The observatory has urged members of the public to complete all typhoon precautions without delay, keep clear of coastal areas, and suspend all water sports activities.
Frequent squally showers, thunderstorms, and heavy swells are expected to lash the territory throughout tomorrow.
