Hong Kong should roll out regulations on the use of artificial intelligence as it catches the public imagination, said Dominic Lee Tsz-king, a Legco member from the New People's Party.
Technical regulations for specific technologies can be adjusted based on the situation and will still have to comply with the laws and regulations of its sector.
He said the administration should "make hay while the sun shines".
"The application of robots and artificial intelligence can involve issues related to privacy, ethics and labor rights as the administration rolls out regulations and guidelines to strike a balance between technological advancement with society demands," Lee said.In reply, Sun said: "The administration encourages researchers, developers and the market to be flexible and innovative, and provide technological solutions to satisfy the demands of different users."
But Lee is still worried that the increased use of artificial intelligence will give rise to legal and commercial disputes or even crimes.Attempting to allay Lee's concerns, Sun said the administration will continue to encourage the regulation and development at the same time while also "closely monitoring" the situation.
