Growling legislators resisted

Legislators baying for the blood of people behind the 612 Humanitarian Relief Fund were yesterday told by Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui Ching-yu to back off, that piling on him wouldn't help.

Several legislators wanted to know why officials had not advanced against the fund - set up to help arrested protesters - after national security cops last week ordered it to provide information on donors over "suspected collusion with foreign agents."

Hui rejected Junius Ho Kwan-yiu's demand for him and his pals to be told when officials were going to finish investigating the fund, saying it would be irresponsible to provide an unrealistic timetable as there were many things to consider.

But the chasers wouldn't stop, with Paul Tse Wai-chun snapping: "Does the government have to rely on the national security law to do its duty? Do you need the help of the People's Liberation Army?"

Hui retorted: "I'm not afraid of a scolding. If you can make Hong Kong a better place by scolding me, fine.

"But it's not going to help solve a problem."
