Nonagenarian unconscious after suspected denture swallowing in Kwun Tong

A man in his 90s was rushed to hospital on Sunday evening after reportedly swallowing his denture and losing consciousness in Kwun Tong, police said.

Police received a report around 6pm that the elderly man had collapsed at Yuet Wah Mansion on Yuet Wah Street. He was taken to United Christian Hospital for treatment. Police are investigating the incident.

In a similar case in 2023, an 84-year-old woman in Tseung Kwan O died after swallowing a denture and falling unconscious. Geriatric specialists said swallowing function naturally declines with age, and conditions such as Parkinson's disease or dementia can accelerate the deterioration.
