The government said 10 out of 23 piers under the Pier Improvement Programme have been reconstructed or expanded. The upgraded piers, which are now open for service in areas including Lamma Island, Sai Kung, Tai Po, and Tung Chung.
Writing in her Sunday blog, Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn Hon-ho said that improvement works for three piers — namely the Sai Wan Jetty in Cheung Chau, Tai O Public Pier, and Yung Shue Wan Public Pier on Lamma Island — are expected to be completed later this year.
Ma Nam Wat Pier in Sai Kung and the Yung Shue O Jetties are scheduled for completion in 2027.
Linn said the upgraded piers now provide safer and more spacious berths, making daily travel more convenient for residents and visitors. Several piers have been fitted with modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, wireless charging stations, and electronic display screens.
The Development Bureau said the enhancements are expected to promote countryside tourism and enrich the travel experience for both residents and tourists.
