FEHD cleaner killed by truck in Yau Ma Tei on New Year's Eve, driver arrested

A Food and Environmental Hygiene Department cleaner was killed after being hit by a heavy goods truck in Yau Ma Tei on New Year's Eve.

The 57-year-old woman, a grade two worker, was struck while pushing a cleaning trolley at the junction of Waterloo Road and Ferry Street around 7pm. She was dragged under the vehicle and later pronounced dead at Kwong Wah Hospital.

Police arrested the 65-year-old truck driver, surnamed Yeung, on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death. The truck was turning left from Waterloo Road into Ferry Street when the accident occurred.

The FEHD said the worker was assigned to street cleaning in the Yau Tsim district and was transporting refuse when hit. Director Donald Ng Man-kit expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to her family.
