Vivian Kong explores candidacy in tourism functional constituency for LegCo election: sources

Hong Kong Olympic fencing gold medalist Vivian Kong Man-wai is reportedly considering a run for the tourism functional constituency in the upcoming Legislative Council election, according to sources. 

This shift in focus comes amidst speculation in political circles regarding her potential candidacy. 

While there were initial discussions about Kong contesting a geographical constituency to enhance voter turnout, recent developments suggest she may run in the tourism sector instead.

Previous conversations about her candidacy appear to have stalled, largely due to concerns surrounding her possession of a foreign passport and the implications for her electoral viability.

However, under the Legislative Council Ordinance, candidates who hold foreign residency rights are permitted to participate in 12 functional constituencies, including sectors such as law, accounting, engineering, and tourism. 

This regulation opens the door for Kong to pursue her political ambitions within the tourism domain, signaling a possible new chapter in her career beyond the sports arena.
