A fire at a recycling plant under Stonecutters Bridge on Tsing Sheung Road in Tsing Yi continues to burn after more than 40 hours, with firefighters still working to extinguish the blaze that reignited early Tuesday.
The fire initially broke out at 4:12am on Tuesday at the recycling facility measuring approximately 50 by 50 meters with a height of about 15 meters. Firefighters encountered intense flames and heavy smoke upon arrival, initially identifying the burning materials as metal scraps. Crews deployed two jets and two breathing apparatus teams for the operation, with no persons trapped or evacuations required.
During Wednesday's No. 10 typhoon signal period, the fire remained active despite strong winds, with witnesses capturing footage of flames and thick smoke billowing from the site.
As of early Thursday morning, the fire has not been fully extinguished after burning for over 40 hours. Fire services continue their firefighting efforts while the cause remains under investigation.
