The Law Society offers pro bono legal support as extreme weather triggers disputes over property damage, contract breaches, and liability claims, and urges the public to seek help for weather-related disputes.
This came after the Observatory issued another Black Rainstorm Warning Signal on Tuesday (Aug 5), marking the fourth time within eight days and setting a record for the highest number in a single year.
Pro bono legal services play a vital role in offering legal support to individuals and organizations who cannot afford litigation costs, ensuring access to justice for all, the Society said.
Many of the pro bono legal services offered by the Society are recognised under the Recognition Scheme for Provision of Pro Bono Legal Services by the Chief Secretary of Administration’s Office, including the “Free Legal Helpline” and the “Free Legal Consultation Service”; as well as the “Free Legal Advice Service on Building Management” and the “Free Outreach Legal Advice Service on Building Management”, which are run jointly by the Law Society and the Home Affairs Department to address daily building management matters.
The Law Society also promotes mediation as a cost-effective and efficient way to settle conflicts, encouraging a win-win outcome for all parties involved.
