A dashcam footage captured the heart-stopping moment of the police officer jumping 10 meters off a bridge in an attempt to evade the bus that had lost control following its collision with a police vehicle.
The chain-reaction crash occurred around 5pm on Friday (June 6) on the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Highway near the Ha Tsuen Interchange.
According to footage from a passing taxi's dashcam, the injured officer was handling an incident involving a double-decker that had broken down in the slow lane, where several cones had been placed 10 meters behind to alert following drivers.
The approaching Citybus on route B3X, which allegedly failed to brake in time, crashed into the police vehicle and swept away the cones.
The impact propelled the officer's vehicle into the fast lane, while the seriously injured officer ran toward the hard shoulder of the road, and the other officer fled forward.
However, the out-of-control bus swerved directly toward him, prompting him to vault over the guardrail and fall approximately 10 meters from the viaduct amid the imminent danger.
As of 11am Sunday, the 31-year-old officer remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit of Tuen Mun Hospital.
