Golden Harvest announced on Wednesday the impending closure of its Grand Ocean cinema in Tsim Sha Tsui, which has been in operation for 56 years, marking another movie theater to cease operations.
"Grand Ocean will be closed from June 2, 2025, due to the end of tenancy. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused." The cinema chain wrote in a Facebook post.
Golden Harvest has also closed its 16-year-old Whampoa cinema on April 10.
The shutdown continues a worrying trend for Hong Kong's cinema sector, with multiple theaters shuttering in recent months.
MCL Cinemas announced last Thursday that its Grand Kornhill Cinema in Taikoo Shing will cease operations next Wednesday (May 28), while Mongkok's Newport Theatre ended its 20-year run on March 31.
