Man dies after being hit by minibus in Ngau Tau Kok

A male pedestrian in his 70s died after being hit by a red minibus in Ngau Tau Kok on Sunday.

The incident occurred around 9am when the minibus was driving along Ngau Tau Kok Road toward Kowloon Bay, as the man suddenly crossed the road near the Kwun Tong Garden Estate Lotus Towers.

The 78-year-old driver failed to brake in time and struck the pedestrian, surnamed Lam, who had lost consciousness. Lam was rushed to United Christian Hospital and later certified dead. 

The front side of the minibus was dented following the collision, and blood was visible on the road.

Sources indicated that Lam, 75, failed to comply with traffic rules when he crossed between the traffic signal and the pedestrian island. 

Police are investigating the cause of the incident.
