Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions (HKFTU) has published a research report on tourism hot spots across Hong Kong's 18 districts to implement the goal of "tourism is everywhere in Hong Kong." The report calls for the development of each district's unique attractions and themed tours, such as religious tours.
Outlined in the report are three strategic actions—focus on enhancing local characteristic attractions in the 18 districts, cultivate cultural heritage sites, and connect Hong Kong’s unique cultural tourism routes as well as train professional guide talents to enrich the cultural connotation of the local tourism industry and boost its attractiveness and competitiveness.
The report also suggests that the government should prioritize attractions that have high popularity and enhance their promotion, including the effective use of social media. Additionally, it highlights the need for improved transport and ancillary facilities, suggesting the connection of bus routes to various attractions to facilitate access.
FTU lawmaker Joephy Chan Wing-yan emphasized the need to bolster themed tourism, such as religious tourism, which would allow tourists to explore major religious sites in Hong Kong and deepen their understanding of the local religious culture.
She also proposed the creation of more itineraries that foster patriotism, for example, visiting the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park, and instilling knowledge about historic incidents and figures, among others.
Lawmaker Kwok Wai-keung pointed out that the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark, despite its significance, is not among the top 10 attractions and suggested that its promotion should be intensified.
He also expressed hope that the government would continue to enhance transportation support to various locations, including the use of environmentally friendly vehicles to transport tourists to and from places like the High Island Reservoir East Dam and other attractions.
