A fire broke out in a residential unit in Causeway Bay on Tuesday morning, forcing the evacuation of more than 50 people and disrupting traffic services.
Police received multiple emergency calls at 10.59am after dense smoke and flames began pouring from a flat in Hennessy Apartments.
Firefighters arrived on scene and deployed a search and rescue team, along with one water jet and a breathing apparatus team to extinguish the blaze.
Rescuers evacuated 42 residents from the building, while 11 staff members and customers were led out from a bank on the lower floors.
Due to the fire, the Transport Department said all lanes of the section of Percival Street between Hennessy Road and Russell Street are closed to all traffic. Tram service around Happy Valley Loop is also suspended.
Motorists were advised to use alternative routes as heavy congestion built up throughout the area.
