Some 20 candidates have used fake Hong Kong academic credentials to gain admission to a Macau university, Secretary for Education Choi Yuk-lin told a radio program on Saturday.
The education chief said the SAR has received a report from a university in Macau indicating that some 20 students are suspected of gaining admission with falsified Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) results.
She said the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority was looped in for verification, with authorities already having filed a report with police. She emphasized that those involved in using fake documents will face criminal consequences.
Choi said the Examination Authority retains all HKDSE results and provides verification services. Anyone with doubts about a student's HKDSE results can inquire with the Examination Authority.
Commenting on the issue of students using fake documents to enroll in Hong Kong universities, she said the institutions have strict checks in place and reiterated that there is no internal subscription in the admissions process. Admission staff are also aware of these regulations, she added.
