LU's president, Joe Qin Sizhao, said on Monday that the relaxing of the non-local student enrollment limit to 40 percent had contributed to a 1,500-student increase in the previous year.
There are currently about 7,700 students, including approximately 4,000 undergraduates and 3,600 postgraduate and doctorate students.
Qin has expressed that he does not intend to increase the student population further unless the government allocates additional space for LU.
His decision is based on the anticipation that the number of students is expected to reach approximately 8,000 next year, and the quota for non-local students has already been met.
Qin stated that the university will propose additional dormitory construction while also considering a new campus in the Northern Metropolis area.
He further revealed that the construction of a research facility in Shenzhen is almost finished, with some researchers expected to migrate to the mainland.
