The Palace Museum in Beijing bears witness to thousands of years of Chinese culture, and hundreds of its priceless relics are on display in Hong Kong. Funded by a donation from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Hong Kong Palace Museum opened its doors in 2022. To further promote Chinese culture as well as nurture arts tech talent, the Hong Kong Jockey Club and Institute of Philanthropy recently signed a Memorandum of Co-operation with the Palace Museum.

The memorandum, namely “Promotion of Chinese Culture and Arts Tech Talent Development in the Mainland and Hong Kong”, envisions a five-year project to integrate arts and technology through cultural exchange, exhibitions, talent capacity building and educational programmes. Citizens in the Mainland and Hong Kong, especially young people, will be able to gain a deeper understanding of Chinese history and culture through its activities.
The project includes the conservation and restoration of Chengqiangong within Beijing’s Palace Museum, which will then house The Palace Museum Hong Kong Cultural Exchange Hub. Other initiatives discussed are thematic exhibitions on the horse in history or as related to the palace, and touring exhibitions in Beijing and Hong Kong to foster cultural exchange.
Digital exhibitions and pop-up activities will be organised to deepen the appreciation of Chinese history and culture among the younger generation in the Mainland and Hong Kong, while mobile digital exhibitions will travel to schools.
In addition, there will be initiatives to cultivate capacity building in the Mainland and Hong Kong to nurture aspiring arts tech talent and cultural professionals. Knowledge dissemination and educational projects, such as forums, archaeological research and production of documentaries, will also be launched.
The Club’s contribution to the project, like all its charity donations, is made possible by its unique integrated business model through which racing and wagering generate tax, charity support and employment opportunities for the community.
