Around 9 am yesterday morning (Nov 8), workers were performing demolition work on a village house at Chung Kwai Chung Village, located near Fu Uk Road.
A 62-year-old worker named Cheung was working alone and using a welding tool to cut the floor's reinforcement rebar on the upper floor.
When he got to the remaining two rebars, the platform that he was standing on suddenly tilted, and the 6-inch-thick concrete wall measuring 10 by 8 feet suddenly collapsed.
His lower body was trapped underneath the concrete wall, and he sustained injuries to his head.
Other workers arrived at the scene after hearing the sound of the commotion discovering Cheung trapped and immediately contacted the police for assistance.
The paramedics arrived at the scene and took Cheung, unconscious, to Yan Chai Hospital for medical attention.
He was later transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital, where he was pronounced dead today at 6.12 am.
The case was listed as an industrial accident and is under police investigation.
