HKwalls street art festival, part of the Hong Kong Arts Month, makes a comeback after a three-year break due to the pandemic. This free cultural event brings art into the community by enlivening Hong Kong’s urban scenes with vibrant street murals.
As artists transform walls in Central and Western District into large murals and original works of art, a spectacular digital art display will be held for the first time in Kowloon. And for the first time since 2019, HKwalls is joined by international artists from around the world.
A strong supporter of Hong Kong Arts Month, Sino Group takes part in HKwalls by providing its first-ever digital art platform. It will be showcasing a digital artwork titled “VLTRAPHOTONICS” on the 4,000 square metre multimedia walls, formed by over 82,000 LED bulbs, of Tsim Sha Tsui Centre and Empire Centre. Dazzling colours will be projected onto Victoria Harbour every night.
Specially-created for the Street Art Festival, “VLTRAPHOTONICS” is produced by renowned Spanish street artist J. Demsky, famed for his colourful artistic style.
“VLTRAPHOTONICS” will be shown on the multimedia walls of Tsim Sha Tsui Centre and Empire Centre nightly between 6pm and 11 pm from 17 March to 12 April for public viewing.
Demsky has been creating graffiti art since the early 1990s. He has made spray paint art in more than 50 countries and enjoys presenting his name in a distorted way. Influenced by the graffiti movement, arcade games, Japanese mecha and sci-fi film, he makes use of the relationship between space and time and presents his works in a new artistic form. He is apt at using overlaid lines and colours to present a unique visual effect and create vibrant and colourful works.
In “VLTRAPHOTONICS”, Demsky transforms his unique 3D graffiti into endless motion images and presents it on the harbourfront.
“I am very excited that my work has become HKwalls’ first multimedia creation,” says Demsky. “The most surprising thing is that the façade of this Sino Group building can be used to showcase my work to people on both sides of Victoria Harbour.”
“I hope that the strong colour lines in my work can bring endless vitality to every person,” he adds. “This giant wall is possibly my largest piece of work, and I hope everyone will like ‘VLTRAPHOTONICS’.”
Sino Group is well-versed in digital art programmes. It has staged many events including the International Digital Art Open Call and the Group’s CSR campaign “Feel the Motion”. The walls not only provide a platform to showcase the works of young digital artists, but also enhance the synergies between art, design and technology.
Striving to promote the development of the arts and culture as well as creative industries, Sino Group has supported many large-scale arts events and provided platforms for young artists to showcase their works. This has also given the general public more opportunities to appreciate and experience art.
