A 33-year-old maintenance worker suffered the amputation of four fingers on his right hand when he was carrying out routine maintenance on an escalator near exit B of the Mong Kok MTR station.

It is understood he was adding lubricants for the escalator when his hand was caught in the moving gear, having all fingers but his thumb cut off.
The worker, Ip, was patched up by paramedics on site and brought to Kwong Wah Hospital for further treatment in a conscious state. Firefighters were said to have retrieved his severed fingers, with the fingers kept in an ice bag in a bid for reattachment.
Police are investigating the industrial accident, with the cause currently unknown.
