Authorities locked down a block in Aberdeen for overnight testing on Monday evening after a preliminary positive case was detected and sewage samples tested positive for Covid-19.
At 8pm on Monday, Wah Yu House of the Aberdeen housing estate was locked down, and residents were ordered to be tested before midnight. They must stay at their flats until all residents have undergone testing and most results are out in order to prevent contamination.
Residents can undergo a nucleic acid test at temporary specimen collection stations set up in the vicinity.
The government hopes that the mass testing operation, which began at 8pm Monday, will be completed by noon Tuesday.
“Given the risk of infection in the relevant area is assessed to be likely higher, the Government decided to make a 'restriction-testing declaration' for the relevant area,” a government spokesman said.
Authorities also said anyone who had stayed in Wah Yu House for more than two hours between February 1 and 14 have to receive compulsory Covid test by Wednesday, February 16, including vaccinated individuals and those who have recently been tested since a mutant Covid strain is involved.
Residents are reminded to adhere to the mandatory testing regulations. Those who refuse to comply can face a fine of up to HK$10,000. Further offenses would be liable to a HK$25,000 and imprisonment for six months.
