Beverage giant Wahaha contemplating name change

Chinese beverage giant Wahaha Group is reportedly planning to adopt a new brand name, “Wa Xiao Zong,” for its 2026 sales year onward, according to an internal document circulating online.

The move, under the leadership of Wahaha chairwoman Kelly Zong Fuli, is said to be aimed at ensuring compliance with the use of the “Wahaha” brand following the death of the company’s founder, Zong Qinghou.

The document reportedly cites complex historical issues that cannot be resolved in the near term, leaving the company exposed to potential legal risks, which prompted the planned rebranding effort.

News of the brand change quickly drew strong reactions online, with many consumers expressing resistance to the new name and showing emotional attachment to the Wahaha brand.
