The incident occurred at night near the pedestrian tunnel on Kweilin Street outside Sham Shui Po MTR station.
The salesman, dressed in a purple shirt and black wide-leg pants, was preparing to end his shift when an elderly man using a cane and wearing tinted glasses demanded to borrow the chair.
The salesman explained he was finishing work, but the request escalated into a confrontation.
The cane-wielding man grew angry, while another masked elderly man attempted to mediate but soon joined in criticizing the salesman for lacking manners and refusing to delay packing briefly.
In a theatrical move, the first elderly man threw down his cane, shouted, and slowly collapsed backward onto the ground, startling passersby.
While lying there, he knocked over the salesman's promotional materials and pushed down the disputed chair, causing a display stand to fall.
The salesman remained calm throughout, smiling wryly and quietly picking up scattered items without retaliating or raising his voice.
Online reactions overwhelmingly supported the salesman, praising his high emotional intelligence and patience despite a likely fruitless day of sales.
Netizens condemned the elderly men's behavior as entitled and manipulative, likening the ground collapse to faking a foul in football and accusing them of moral grandstanding.
Many highlighted potential criminal damage from knocking over property, noting the video evidence protected the salesman from false accusations.
