Yeung fulfilled his pre-tournament promise by winning the prestigious event, marking an improvement over his bronze medal performance in the previous competition.
The wushu specialist showcased his skill with two masterful performances, earning him the top spot.
On Friday, Yeung achieved a score of 9.766 in the Taijiquan discipline, narrowly surpassing Taiwan's Sun Chia-hung by a mere 0.003 points.
He continued his strong performance with a score of 9.76 in Taijijian today, placing second in that segment.
However, his combined total of 19.526 points was sufficient to outscore Japan's Tomohiro Aryaya, who had 19.476 points, and Singapore's Tay Yu Xuan.
Yeung expressed his confidence in his abilities, noting that he had trained professionally to reach this level and performed at his best over the two days with complete mental calmness.
He emphasized that in the subjective world of wushu, his focus is on perfecting his routines rather than fixating on the scores.
This gold medal victory comes at a crucial time for Yeung, boosting his confidence ahead of the World Wushu Championships scheduled in two weeks.
He acknowledged some initial nerves due to the elevated stage setup in Chengdu but mentioned that the support from the crowd played a significant role in enhancing his performance.
He expressed his hope to maintain the same energy at the upcoming World Wushu Championships.
Yeung's success adds to Hong Kong's achievements at the games, following Grace Lau's gold medal in the women's individual kata event in karate, thus helping Hong Kong surpass its previous medal tally at the World Games.
Wong Po-kee, the delegation's chef de mission, commended Yeung's stable and excellent performances in both events, highlighting that Anthony not only secured a gold medal but also showcased the essence of Chinese martial arts to the world.
