From Peking University to public service
Chong, 25, first drew attention last year when she was elected as a member of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB). She briefly competed in the Miss Hong Kong 2025 pageant but later withdrew, citing concerns over public perception and a desire to focus on her duties as a councilor.
Born and raised in Hong Kong in 2000 in a patriotic family, Chong credits her parents and teachers for instilling her love of country. She has said she deeply appreciates China’s achievements and believes that serving the public and contributing to Hong Kong and the nation is both her mission and responsibility.
Chong attended a local international school before turning down offers from UK universities to pursue a dual degree at Peking University, majoring in government management and business administration. At a public event, Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung praised her decision to study at Peking University instead of the UK as a “choice of light over darkness,” giving her firsthand insight into China’s development. After graduating, she returned to Hong Kong to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Hong Kong.
Known for her academic excellence, Chong has actively participated in national policy promotion, including appearances at the 5th anniversary forum of the National Security Law and as a delegate to Beijing’s 15th Women’s Congress.
Chong’s social media style sparks debate
Chong has also attracted attention on social media, where she frequently posts short videos explaining legislation and social policies in a friendly and approachable style. Her on-screen appearance and fashion choices have sparked discussion online, with some viewers commenting on her fitted outfits and stylish image.
The response has been mixed. Some critics argue that public officials should maintain a more conservative appearance, while many others have defended Chong, praising her charisma and saying her personal style should be respected.
Often described as both beautiful and patriotic, Chong has been recognized for her style, poise, and dedication to public service, earning attention in both political and social circles.
