The 76-year-old actor Benz Hui Shiu-hung has been admitted to the hospital in critical condition, according to sources emerging on Monday (Oct 27).
The news has sent ripples through the entertainment industry, prompting many of his family members and friends, including fellow actors Maria Luísa Leitão and Michael Miu Kiu-wai, along with TVB producers, to gather in support.
Hui, affectionately known as 'Benz Hung', boasts an illustrious career that spans over 50 years, during which he has appeared in a multitude of popular films and television shows.
Recently, both he and his daughter, Charmaine Hui, gained significant attention on social media as they entertained audiences with glimpses of their everyday lives. Their latest video, released just a week prior, featured the pair enjoying a gaming session together.
Around noon today, TVB producers Jazz Boon Wai-hung and Lam Chi-wah, both of whom have previously collaborated with Hui, were seen arriving at the hospital with serious expressions.
In June, observers noted Hui experiencing difficulty breathing during a visit to his former home in Guangzhou, raising concerns about his health.
At about 2.30pm, Boon and Lam departed the hospital but refrained from commenting on Hui's current condition. Raymond Wong Ho-yin, another longtime collaborator of Hui's, was also present but chose to remain silent as he left.
Bosco Wong, known for his collaborations with Hui in dramas like Wars of In-Laws II, A Change of Heart, among others, arrived at 3.40pm.
When approached by reporters, Wong offered only a fleeting glance before hurrying into the hospital, choosing not to comment.
About an hour later, at 4.30pm, Edwin Siu Ching-nam and his wife, Priscilla Wong Tsui-yu, arrived dressed in subdued black and white attire, both wearing caps and masks, their expressions heavy with grief as they entered the hospital in silence.
Five minutes after Siu and Wong, Ben Wong Chi-yin arrived alone, his presence recalling his memorable on-screen rivalry with Wai in the 2019 drama The Defected, where Hui's outspoken character, Inspector Kan, frequently clashed with Wong’s Inspector Ching, creating memorable sparks.
Comedian Dayo Wong Tze-wah arrived discreetly, heavily masked, followed by Bobby Au-yeung Tsan-wah and Evergreen Mak Cheung-ching, both wearing sunglasses and masks, appearing together.
Shortly after, actress Sharon Chan Man-chi was also spotted entering the hospital. Dayo Wong left after a brief 25-minute visit, maintaining his low-key demeanor.
Raymond Wong Ho-yin and his wife, who had left the hospital around 3pm, returned three hours later.
They were soon joined by actors Benjamin Yuen Wai-ho, Emily Kwan Po-wai, and Jazz Lam Tsz-sin, who arrived one after the other.
When approached by reporters, Kwan expressed uncertainty about Wai’s condition, stating she needed to visit him first to understand his situation.
She shared that she and Hui have been friends for over 30 years, recalling their last meeting when she visited his home for dinner the previous year.
Hui, who hails from a distinguished family in Guangzhou, is known for his considerable wealth. He moved to Hong Kong in 1958, joining TVB's inaugural artist training class, and earned his nickname for often driving a Benz to his work.
