Authorities said the suspect, surnamed Chen, broke into a residential unit at Logan Supreme Residential Estate on the night of March 21 and attacked two victims. One of them later died.
The Macau University of Science and Technology confirmed that the deceased was one of its students. The university said it is treating the incident “very seriously” and has set up a task force to follow up.
Police said the suspect remains in custody and investigations are ongoing.
The residential estate is a relatively upscale development near the Macau border, home to middle-class families, business professionals, and students who commute daily to Macau.
Unverified online reports suggested the two victims, both female students, may have been followed prior to the incident. It was also alleged that one victim was killed while the other was rendered unconscious. Authorities have not confirmed these claims.
