Taiwan deploys missiles, tanks as mainland holds military drills

Taiwan deployed surface-to-air missiles on the Hengchun Peninsula and tanks appeared on streets in Taichung as the People's Liberation Army’s Eastern Theater Command announced military exercises around the island.

The PLA said it is conducting the “Justice Mission 2025” exercises and will hold live-fire drills in five designated sea and air zones near Taiwan on Tuesday.

In response, Taiwan’s military set up missiles at Maobitou on the peninsula. Local residents said missile units often deploy at scenic or garrison areas like Eluanbi and Maobitou during mainland drills, raising launchers on alert.

Tanks were also seen on roads in Daya District, Taichung. The Army’s 10th Corps said it activated a response center and conducted immediate combat readiness drills “in reaction to the mainland's targeted live-fire exercises.”
