A bizarre case was uncovered at Luohu Port, where a 79-year-old man altered the year of his birth on the Home Return Permit without authorization for the sake of a romance.
The elderly man, surnamed Cheng, recently departed mainland China via Luohu Port accompanied by his romantic partner to travel abroad.
However, they were separated by immigration officers due to an alteration on Cheng’s Home Return Permit.
His original birth year, 1946, was covered with a sticker that made him 10 years younger.
During the investigation, Cheng explained that following the death of his spouse, he had been living alone for several years. His children arranged a blind date for him, during which Cheng experienced an immediate connection with the partner.
However, the partner expressed a preference for a partner around 60 years old, which troubled Cheng.
To meet her criteria, he used a sticker to alter his birth year.
Despite being caught, Cheng pleaded with the officers to keep his secret.
Given that this was his first offense and he promptly rectified the situation, the authorities opted against imposing a penalty, instead issuing him a warning.
