A total of 1,193 were ground crew personnel, 736 joined as ramp services agents and 492 worked as cabin workers, he added.
Lam also revealed that the manpower shortage in the aviation industry is expected to increase to around 18,000 and 23,000 people in 2028, upon the commissioning of the Three-Runway System.
In view of this, the Airport Authority (AA) will launch a new round of airport manpower survey to assess the short-term manpower requirement more accurately.
Additionally, the aviation industry may address the impending manpower shortage through the General Employment Policy and the Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals.
The daily passenger throughput at the Hong Kong International Airport in peak season has returned to around 85 percent of the pre-pandemic level, and is expected to return to the pre-pandemic level in the peak season at the end of this year, Lam stated.
The Labour Importation Scheme for the Transport Sector - Aviation Industry was launched last July, allowing aviation-related companies with direct contracts with the AA to import workers for ten types of frontline non-supervisory jobs while ensuring local employment is protected, with a quota of 6,300.
