Thick smoke was seen billowing from the men's bathroom at the Yung Fung Shee Memorial Centre East Kowloon Health Centre located in Kwun Tong at 8 am today and was dense enough to affect the patients awaiting consultation in the lobby.
The police were contacted, and firefighters arrived at the scene to deploy a water jet to extinguish the fire.
Services were temporarily suspended during the fire, and no one was found injured during the incident.
After investigation, it was revealed that the fire was caused by a short circuit in the exhaust fan in the men's bathroom.
The spokesperson from the United Christian Hospital declared that they had taken the necessary steps to ensure that the staff and patients were safely evacuated and gradually returned them to the center to receive services after firefighters confirmed that it was safe.
They said the fire delayed their service by about 45 minutes but have since resumed regular operation.
The spokesperson added that no staff or patients have complained of feeling unwell.
