The death of Barbie Hsu, the Taiwanese actress commonly known as “Big S”, was confirmed on Monday morning as she had caught influenza-related pneumonia in Japan over the Lunar New Year.

Just days before her unexpected and shocking passing, she participated in an event alongside her husband, Koo Jun-yup, looking vibrant and healthy.
Throughout her life, Hsu had a history of health issues and had previously shared her views on life, stating that she was never afraid of dying -- a sentiment that resonates deeply in light of her passing.
Hsu’s previous health struggles included mitral valve prolapse and multiple seizures. She also suffered from depression and eating disorder.
In 2016, she experienced a severe medical crisis during childbirth, where she lost her heartbeat and almost passed away. In addition, she had endured two miscarriages.
In an interview in 2018, Hsu reflected on her near-death experiences and saying, “You never know when life will end, so I’m no longer afraid of death.”
