At 6.24 pm today, sparks were observed on the platform near the tracks at Po Lam Station. Passengers noticed the unusual occurrence and alerted the authorities.
Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene, though the cause of the sparks remains under investigation.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in connection with the incident.
A passenger surnamed Chan mentioned that he originally planned to take the train on the Island Line back to Tseung Kwan O, but when he arrived at North Point Station, the train was completely stopped, and there was an announcement that the platform screen doors were malfunctioning, leading to the suspension of service at Po Lam Station.
The North Point Station was crowded with people waiting to board the train at one point, and passengers waited for about 20 minutes before the train resumed service again at around 6.39 pm.
The MTR Corporation has confirmed that train services around Po Lam Station on the Tseung Kwan O Line are temporarily halted and has advised passengers to seek alternative transportation options.
The company has committed to providing updates as further details become available. The suspension is due to an urgent inspection of the platform tracks at Po Lam Station.
