The parade started at the Hong Kong Sports Institute in Sha Tin, where fans braved the rain to catch a glimpse of fencing gold medalist Vivian Kong Man-wai, double bronze medalist swimmer Siobhan Haughey, and other Hong Kong representatives at the Paris Olympic Games.
When the open-roofed double-decker buses passed by Tai Wai MTR station, the crowds waved flags and cheered to show their respects not only to medal winners but to all athletes who dedicated countless hours to prepare for the Olympic Games.
Athletes waved to enthusiastic spectators who had gathered to show their support.
One attendee remarked that every athlete has put in tremendous effort and deserves applause for their hard work, not just the champions.
Among the attendees was a resident who had traveled from the US for a family visit.
They emphasized the importance of supporting athletes irrespective of their results, describing the parade as a heartfelt celebration of the athletes' dedication and hard work.
Some have also expressed a desire for more events that facilitate interactions between athletes and the community.
In Tsim Sha Tsui, other spectators echoed similar sentiments, expressing pride in the achievements of the two Olympic gold medalists emerging from the small territory of Hong Kong.
A mainland student also highlighted the significance of personally thanking the athletes, taking advantage of their family visit to join in the excitement.
