Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen, the president of the Legislative Council, congratulated the Hong Kong Olympics delegation on behalf of all lawmakers during his speech after the bus parade to welcome the athletes this morning.
The bus arrived at the Legislative Council Complex around 11.50 am, where Leung and his colleagues welcomed the Olympians.
Leung expressed his gratitude to the athletes for their efforts in the Paris Olympics, which brought pride to Hong Kong. He stated that the Legislative Council will continue working with the government to further bolster the development of sports in the city.
The delegation then proceeded to Tamar Park on foot and shared their Olympics and training experiences with the students. They took a group photo in front of the Government Headquarters, holding balloons, placards, and a banner. Many athletes also signed autographs for the waiting public.
A student from the track and field team said he was inspired by gold medalist Vivian Kong Man-wai and fencer Cedric Ho Wai-hang after interacting with them.
Another student feels encouraged to be persistent after learning about the training of the Olympians.
DAB lawmaker Ngan Man-yu said that the athletes visiting the Legislative Council Complex make the day memorable, after getting autographs from Kong, Siobhan Bernadette Haughey and Doo Hoi-kem.
