Police said they received a report from MTR staffers at 11.03 pm yesterday, claiming that a young girl had jumped onto the track at Sheung Shui station and was struck by a train heading towards Admiralty.
Paramedics responded swiftly to the report, but the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
The police found a suicide letter and suspected that the victim committed suicide due to emotional distress.
Her cause of death is pending a forensic autopsy.
A 65-year-old MTR staffer suffered a shoulder injury from a fall during the incident and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
