Jointly organized by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau and the Agency for Volunteer Service, the Hong Kong Volunteer Awards marks its second iteration, and applauds the exceptional volunteer contributions across various community sectors. This year, Henderson Land Property Management Department (comprising Hang Yick Properties Management Ltd. and Well Born Real Estate Management Ltd.) has once again received the Corporate Award for Top Ten Highest Volunteer Hours and the Excellence Gold Award, marking their second consecutive victory. This streak of accolades underscores Henderson Land Property Management Department’s active engagement in the government’s initiatives for community care and youth advancement, fostering a compassionate and inclusive society.
Henderson Land Property Management Department has consistently demonstrated excellence in volunteering. Prior to the recent 2 years of victories, it had previously received recognition 15 times under programs by the Social Welfare Department. This year, it again demonstrates its contribution to societal welfare, with eight estates under its management among the winners of the Top 10 Outstanding Caring Estates, including La Cite Noble, Metro City Phase 2, Metro Harbour View, Sheung Shui Center, Sunshine City C-D (Phase 2), Sunshine City E-M (Phase 4), Sunshine City N-R (Phase 3) and The Sherwood.
Mr. Suen Kwok Lam, SBS, BBS, MH, JP, Executive Director of Henderson Land Group says, “Henderson Land Property Management Department has always adhered to the Group Chairman Dr. Lee Shau Kee’s vision to ‘give back to society’ that we actively encourage employees to participate in volunteer services and strive to build a harmonious and inclusive community.” The Department’s persistent achievement in volunteerism sets a benchmark and inspires corporate participation in volunteer efforts.
Henderson Land Property Management Department has initiated several measures to promote volunteering among employees. These include providing volunteer leave as a reward for employees who accumulate sufficient volunteer hours and supplying resources for the maintenance and repair works for the households of the needy. Mr. Suen notes an increasing number of young individuals participating in recent years. “This reflects the inheritance of the volunteer spirit from generation to generation,” he says.
The Department’s volunteer team, Team of Care, has been adapting to societal changes by expanding their services. Beyond focusing on disadvantaged groups, they are now actively engaged in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) related projects, aiming for sustainable development. Initiatives include cleaning hiking trails and beaches, as well as upcycling activities during Christmas.
The success of Team of Care is attributed to the combined efforts of Henderson Land Property Management Department’s employees, contractors, business partners, and residents. The widespread adoption of the volunteering concept has led to over 10,000 residents joining the team. This collaborative approach serves as an exemplary model for other companies.
Since December 2022, the Department has partnered with the NGO Youth We Go, focusing on three key objectives: supporting athletes in their career development; connecting with youth through sports; and engaging athletes in community service for disadvantaged groups. The positive impact of these initiatives on society has been recognized by the Hong Kong Volunteer Awards. Henderson Land Property Management Department remains hopeful that more individuals will engage in volunteering, contributing further to the community.
