A drone strike hit a luxury residential building in Dubai's Creek Harbour neighbourhood on Wednesday, sparking a major fire and forcing evacuations, authorities confirmed.
Dubai Media Office said emergency services responded to an incident involving a drone that struck a building near Dubai Creek Harbour, an upscale area featuring high-end apartments, penthouses and luxury hotels including Vida Creek Harbour and Address Harbour Point. Dramatic footage circulating on social media showed flames engulfing parts of the structure.
Evacuations were carried out to ensure the safety of all residents, officials said. The drone is believed to be of Iranian origin, as Gulf nations have been targeted in retaliatory attacks amid the ongoing US-Israeli military campaign against Iran.
Separate reports indicated a fire at Jumeirah Palm and damage to Dubai airport, though details remain unclear.
The United Nations Security Council on Wednesday adopted a resolution condemning Iranian attacks on Gulf nations and demanding an immediate cessation of strikes against Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Jordan. The measure, which passed with 13 votes in favour while China and Russia abstained, also condemns any Iranian attempts to interfere with navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
