Nike searches surge after photo of detained Maduro in Tech tracksuit

Online searches for Nike's Tech tracksuit soared after photos circulated of detained Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro wearing the brand's gray hoodie and pants during his capture by US forces.

US President Donald Trump posted an image on Truth Social around 12.30am Hong Kong time on Thursday showing Maduro in handcuffs, with an eye mask and ear covers, aboard a US ship.

Netizens identified his outfit as Nike Tech, priced at about US$260 (HK$2,028) for the set. The ear covers were Flintronic brand and the eye mask Wanme, costing about US$11.99 and US$6.99 respectively.

Foreign social media accounts noted a spike in Google searches for Nike Tech after the photo, with some calling Nike the "biggest winner" and suggesting renaming the color "Maduro Gray."
