The incident occurred around 4pm at the junction of Yen Chow Street and Fuk Wa Street. A four-minute video circulating online shows the women arguing heatedly before the situation escalated. A woman in a yellow vest grabbed the other woman's hair and pulled her to the ground, causing her head to hit the pavement audibly.
During the chaos, someone was heard asking "Are you queueing or not?" The woman in a dress, while fighting back, shouted "I was queueing, the two of us mother and daughter were here."
The woman in the dress lost her glasses and personal belongings scattered during the fall. She quickly got up, continuing to fight back even after losing her shoe. Her young daughter, visibly distressed, cried and swung a backpack and a reusable bag at the other woman in an attempt to help.
Bystanders, restaurant staff, and a colleague of one woman eventually separated them, though verbal exchanges continued. The woman in the dress demanded police be called, citing CCTV coverage.
Police received a report at 4.48pm from a 41-year-old woman surnamed Cheung, who alleged she was assaulted by a 60-year-old woman surnamed Chan during a queue dispute. Officers arrived to find the situation resolved. The case was classified as a dispute, with no injuries reported and no arrests made.
The video sparked heated online discussions, with some netizens expressing sympathy for the distressed child.
